Memorial website in the memory of your loved one

This memorial website was created in memory of our daughter,  Dawn Marie Walden, who was born in Wilmington, Delaware on November 9th 1971 and passed away suddenly after a single car accident on July 9th 1989 at the tender age of 17.  Dawn always lived life to the fullest she loved her family, her friends, animals, music, sports, school, the beach, pizza, spaghetti, ice cream, girl scouts, even work and every minute that she was given here on this earth.  Her smile could light up any room and she truly lit up our lives during the years that we were fortunate enough to have had her here with us.  Her fatal accident was just 4 weeks after high school graduation and 4 months before her 18th birthday.  She was a beloved daughter, sister, grand-daughter, niece, cousin, friend, fiancee' and a cosmetologist.  The realization that Dawn’s life had ended so abruptly was both shocking & devastating for everyone that knew & loved her.  We shall never - ever forget her.  We will love & miss her forever.  This website is intended for Dawn’s family & friends to visit, remember & memorialize her.  Please feel free to share memories, post a note, condolences, stories, poems, photos, songs, videos and please light a candle in memory of Dawn

Fill not your hearts with pain and sorrow, but remember me in every tomorrow. Remember the joy, the laughter, the smiles, I've only gone to rest a little while. Although my leaving causes you pain and grief, my going has eased my hurt and given me relief. So dry your eyes and remember me, not as I am now, but as I used to be. Because, I will remember you all and look on with a smile. Understand, in your hearts, I've only gone to rest a little while. As long as I have the love of each of you, I can live my life in the hearts of all of you.

Special Thank You To Corey's Mom Donna for the Beautiful Christmas Graphics

Dawn & Scott Prom Night 5/25/1989

-

He Only Took My Hand

Last night while I was trying to sleep,
My daughter's voice I did hear
I opened my eyes and looked around
But she did not appear.

She said "Mom you've got to listen,
You've got to understand
God didn't take me from you,
Mom, He only took my hand.

When I called out in pain that night,
The instant that I died,
He reached down and took my hand,
And pulled me to his side.

He pulled me up and saved me
From the misery and the pain
My body hurt so badly inside,
I could never be the same.

My search is really over now,
I've found happiness within,
All the answers to my empty dreams
And all that might have been.

I love you and I miss you so,
And I'll always be nearby.
My body's gone forever,
But my spirit will never die!

And so, you must go on now,
Live one day at a time.
Just understand -
God did not take me from you,
He only took my hand."

You can shed tears that she is gone,
or you can smile because she has lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that she'll come back,
or you can open your eyes and see all she's left.
Your heart can be empty because you can't see her,
or you can be full of the love you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday,
or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember her only that she is gone,
or you can cherish her memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind,
be empty and turn your back.
Or you can do what she'd want:
smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond's glint on the snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush,
of quiet birds in circled flight,
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry
I am not there I did not die.

A Birthday In Heaven

I heard you crying yesterday
And felt your heart-sent love
So I’m sending you this message
Now, from Heaven up above.

You’re wondering if I’ll celebrate
My birthday (way up here)
I know you’re missing me today
I feel your essence near.

God planned a special day for me
He told me with a wink
He’d ordered me a special cake
(It’s Angel food, I think)

I’m getting lots of hugs from God
He’s really good at that
And every time that I walk by
He gives my head a pat

Balloons will fill the streets for me
They float up through the clouds
And we have lots of clowns up here
That make us laugh out loud

There is a birthday carousel
Jeweled horses ride the wind
With music playing oh so sweet…
The magic never ends

I’ve made so many friends, you see
We laugh and play and sing
We ride our bikes and play jump rope
And sleep in Angel’s wings

We’ll have our cake and ice cream
And open gifts, surprise!
But we don’t blow out our candles here
Instead, they light the skies

The night that you died
our hearts were torn in two
One side filled with heart ache
the other died with you
I often lie awake at night
when the world is fast asleep
and take a walk down memory lane
with tears upon my cheeks
Rembering you is easy
I do it every day
But missing you is a heartache
that never goes away

SPECIAL ANGEL IN HEAVEN

There is a special Angel in Heaven
that is a part of me.
It is not where I wanted her
but where God wanted her to be.

She was here but just a moment
like a night time shooting star.
And though she is in Heaven
she isn't very far.

She touched the heart of many
like only an Angel can do.
I would've held her every minute
if the end I only knew.

So I send this special message
to the Heavens up above.
Please take care of my special Angel
and send her all my love.

Footprints in the Sand

One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord.
Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.
In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand.
Sometimes there were two sets of footprints,
other times there were one set of footprints.

This bothered me because I noticed
that during the low periods of my life,
when I was suffering from
anguish, sorrow or defeat,
I could see only one set of footprints.

So I said to the Lord,
“You promised me Lord,
that if I followed you,
you would walk with me always.
But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life
there have only been one set of footprints in the sand.
Why, when I needed you most, you have not been there for me?”

The Lord replied,
“The times when you have seen only one set of footprints in the sand, is when I carried you.”

Didn't Have Time To Say Goodbye

Didn't have time to say goodbye,
as the angels carried me into the sky.
As I turned to look back trying to see,
I knew that tears would be shed for me.
I wouldn't change anything that day,
when God called me to come His way.
All fears, doubts, and pains were gone,
nothing but happiness as I entered God's home.
I looked and saw family and friends grieve for me,
in everyone's sad heart I saw special love for me.
As I was gazing at the family I left behind,
God promised we'd be together once more in time.
Cry not for me anymore but only rejoice,
before my death I made the right choice.
I'm in heaven today just where you wanted me,
thanks to the prayers that were prayed for me.
In due time we will meet once more,
I'll be waiting as you enter God's door.
What a great reunion that will be,
as we praise God together you and me.

Angel in Disguise

On this earth as one of us,
Living a life as we all do.
Hopes and dreams
For what's to come.
An angel in disguise,
Something unseen,
Something untouched,
Something unknown,
Something special,
An angel in disguise.
You could light up a room,
Your smile could brighten the darkest of days.
Your voice filled with love,
Eyes that could make ones troubles go away.
An angel in disguise,
Walking this earth as a person,
Bringing happiness to those you know.
Giving complete love,
Blessing the lives of so many.
An angel in disguise,
A heart of gold,
A job well done,
A special life gone.
Memories of love in my soul,
An angel in disguise.
Here in disguise,
Your job complete.
It was time to return home,
No longer in disguise.
You are now an angel with wings,
Forever loved,
Forever my angel.

The Dragonfly Story

Down below the surface of a quiet pond lived a little colony of water bugs. They were a happy colony, living far away from the sun. For many months they were very busy, scurrying over the soft mud on the bottom of the pond. They did notice that every once in a while one of their colony seemed to lose interest in going about with its friends. Clinging to the stem of a pond lily, it gradually moved out of sight and was seen no more.

"Look!" said one of the water bugs to another, "One of our colony is climbing up the lily stalk. Where do you think she's going?" Up, up, up it slowly went... Even as they watched, the water bug disappeared from sight. Its friends waited and waited but it didn't return...

"That's funny!" said one water bug to another... " Wasn't she happy here?" asked a second... "Where do you suppose she went?" wondered a third... No one had an answer. They were greatly puzzled. Finally one of the water bugs gathered its friends together. "I have an idea. The next one of us who climbs up the lily stalk must promise to come back and tell us where he or she went and why." "We promise" they said solemnly.

One spring day not long after the very water bug who had suggested the plan found himself climbing up the lily stalk. Up, up, up he went. Before he knew what was happening, he had broken through the surface of the water and fallen into the broad and free lily pad above.

When he awoke, he looked about with surprise. He couldn't believe what he saw. A startling change had come over his old body. His movement revealed four silver wings and a long tail. Even as he struggled, he felt an impulse to move his wings... The warmth of the sun soon dried the moisture from his new body. He moved his wings again and suddenly found himself above the water.

He had become a dragonfly. Swooping and dipping in great curves, he flew through the air. He felt exhilarated in the new atmosphere. By and by the new dragonfly landed happily on a lily pad to rest. Then it was that he chanced to look below to the bottom of the pond. Why, he was right above his old friends, the water bugs! There they were scurrying around, just as he had been doing some time before.

Then the dragonfly remembered the promise, without thinking, the dragonfly darted down. Suddenly he hit the surface of the water and bounced away.  Now that he was a dragonfly, he could no longer go into the water... "I can't return!" he said in dismay. "At least I tried. But I can't keep my promise. Even if I could go back, not one of the water bugs would know me in my new body. I guess I'll just have to wait until they become dragonflies too. Then they'll understand what has happened to me, and where I went." And the dragonfly winged off happily into its wonderful new world of sun and air...

Should You Go First

Should you go first and I remain
to walk the road alone,
I'll live in memories garden dear,
with happy days we've known.

In spring I'll wait for roses red,
when faded, the lilacs blue.
In early fall when brown leaves fall,
I'll catch a glimpse of you.

Should you go first and I remain,
for battle to be fought.
Each thing you've touched along the way
will be a hallowed spot.

I'll hear your voice, I'll see your smile,
though blindly I may grope,
The memory of your helping hand
will buoy me on with hope.

Should you go first and I remain,
one thing I'll have you do:
Walk slowly down that long long path,
for soon I'll follow you.

I want to know each step you take,
so I may take the same.
For someday down that lonely road
you'll hear me call your name.
